For this event we're flying in one of our all-time favorites, Robbie
Hardkiss, for an exclusive SF performance (one night only; it's all his schedule would allow!). He's played for us three times before in Boston and we believe is responsible for (at least) one of the best sets ever at The Phoenix Landing, not to mention repeatedly blowing our minds on various dancefloors since 1993. Supporting talent comes from local hero and Sunset resident DJ, Solar, and Moxie Music resident DJ, Bryan James. We've chosen the bar Amnesia as a perfect setting; intimate, dark, and red! We'll be projecting video by local and established artists, and reinforcing the sound system for proper punch!

Biography: Robbie Hardkiss

In the Early 90's, Robbie Hardkiss and his "brothers" Scott and Gavin
helped pioneer the American electronic music scene with their ground
breaking record label Hardkiss Music. They quickly joined the ranks of the
domestic DJ elite, and in 1995 reached legendary status with the release
of their classic album, "Delusions of Grandeur." In addition to his
Hardkiss productions, Robbie has released music under the names Little
Wing and Boozy+Swan. The success of his original material has lead to
remixing projects for a diverse group of heavy hitting artists, including
Elton John, Duke Ellington, Lords of Acid, Detroit Grand Pubahs and
Q-Burns Abstract Message. In addition to his critically praised production
work, Robbie has become an internationally respected DJ, playing his
signature funked-up house sound regularly throughout North America and as

Profile: Redlight Music

Redlight has been one of Boston's preeminent event organizers for the better part
of a decade. Their weekly party at The Phoenix Landing ran for seven and a
half years, built the venue from obscurity into the hub of New England's
underground scene, and championed diversity within the dance music format;

Mello, Funk D'Void, DJ Hell, Tiga, Christian Smith, Marco Carola, Chris

Can't always judge a book by its cover

THE GINGHAM DRESS

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly without an appointment into the Harvard University President's outer office.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard & probably didn't even deserve to be in Cambridge.

We'd like to see the president," the man said softly.

"He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped.

"We'll wait," the lady replied.

For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away.

They didn't, and the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always dreaded.

"Maybe if you see them for a few minutes, they'll leave," she said to him.

He sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, and he detested gingham dresses and homespun suits cluttering up his outer office.

The president, stern faced and with dignity, strutted toward the couple.

The lady told him, "We had a son who attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him,somewhere on campus."

The president wasn't touched. He was shocked.

"Madam," he said, gruffly,"we can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery."

"Oh, no," the lady explained quickly. "We don't want to erect a statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard."

The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs?

We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical buildings here at Harvard."

For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. Maybe he could get rid of them now.

The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it costs to start a university? Why don't we just start our own? "

Her husband nodded. The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford got up and walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California where they established the university that bears their name, Stanford University, a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

Greetings from a Bay area transplant to Hawaii.
I now live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and own an internet cafe called the Aloha Outpost. (www.alohaoutpost.com) I also set up an internet radio station, because the tunes werent too funky when I got up in here.
Thanks for the tribe. I now feel like I have been tossed a funk lifeline.

The Concept of NAKED FUNK

I believe the concept behind Naked Funk to me derives from the spirit in that - Giving the opportunity to dance without fear. Letting yourself become"Naked" and letting your true innerself speak. Acheiving this through the FUNK of dance and social interaction with likeminded individuals.

There is also the GETTING NAKED and GETTING FUNKY in the carnal sense that is valid as well

Anyone else have a definition to share?

NAKED FUNK DJ's testing the water for an OPEN DECKS night in SF March 3 !!!

Word up !!!

Us Funksters at NAKED FUNK are kicking around the possibility of doing a Thursday night weekly in the city, with an OPEN DECKS HAPPY HOUR to get the ball rolling.
So we're getting feedback, getting reactions from folks, and we're trying out a venue this coming Thursday, March 11 to see if it will work.
BOHEMIA SF, on California at Polk is our launch pad, whether we stay there or move to a better spot remains to be seen.
We want to make it like a sort of DJ gong show from 9 till 11 or 12pm, with open decks for up and coming DJ's to come down and show off their stuff. If it's still tennis shoes in the dryer, we'll get the hook! So we'll have drink specials and whatnot, so y'all can get sloppy early on.....
So let us know what you think, hopefully you'll find it in yourself to get onboard.....bring some wax and flex on the decks, and if we're all full this week, get on the roster for next.....

Oh and this shindig's a freebie, at least for now.....

We'll be holding it down till 2, DJ's in the house will be.....
